    ravynOS

    ravynOS

A BSD-based OS project that aims to provide an experience with MacOS

We love macOS, but we’re not a fan of the ever-closing hardware and ecosystem. So we are creating ravynOS, an OS aimed to provide the finesse of macOS with the freedom of FreeBSD. This is a developer preview image that’s mainly intended for helping build the system. We recommend running in a virtual machine, although it should work on any hardware supported by FreeBSD-CURRENT (14.0) with at least 2GB (8GB recommended) RAM. PLEASE NOTE: On 2022-02-14, we decided to abandon the current path of using X11/KDE desktop components and write from scratch a new UI that will align better with our goals. This stepping back will slow the project but ultimately should result in a better outcome. We intend to bring many of the features you’ve come to love from macOS to ravynOS like clean design, global menus, and drag-and-drop installs. All of your FreeBSD ports and apps, Linux apps, and even trivial Darwin & macOS binaries can now run on ravynOS. And we’re actively working on improving it!

    ToaruOS

    ToaruOS

Hobby operating system, bootloader, kernel, drivers, C library

ToaruOS is a "complete" operating system for x86-64 PCs and experimental support for ARMv8. While many independent, hobby, and research OSes aim to experiment with new designs, ToaruOS is intended as an educational resource, providing a representative microcosm of functionality found in major desktop operating systems. The OS includes a kernel, bootloader, dynamic shared object linker, C standard library, its own composited windowing system, a dynamic bytecode-compiled programming language, advanced code editor, and dozens of other utilities and example applications. There are no external runtime dependencies and all required source code, totaling roughly 100k lines of (primarily) C, is included in this repository, save for Kuroko, which lives separately. Through out the project, ToaruOS has also attracted quite a few beginner OS developers who have tried to use it as a reference.

    Tilck

    Tilck

    A Tiny Linux-Compatible Kernel

Tilck is a tiny, monolithic operating system kernel designed to be partially compatible with Linux at the binary level while maintaining extreme simplicity, low latency, and minimal resource usage. It is built primarily as an educational project, allowing developers to experiment with kernel development while still being able to run real Linux user-space applications without modification. The kernel is written in C and designed to run on architectures such as i686 and RISC-V, with future plans for broader hardware support. One of its defining characteristics is its deterministic behavior and very small memory footprint, enabling it to run on systems with extremely limited resources. Unlike Linux, tilck intentionally avoids complexity and large-scale features, focusing instead on clarity, robustness, and ease of understanding. It includes its own bootloader and supports integration with existing ones like GRUB, making it flexible for experimentation.

NVIDIA Linux Open GPU Kernel Module

NVIDIA Linux Open GPU Kernel Module

NVIDIA Linux open GPU kernel module source

This is the source release of the NVIDIA Linux open GPU kernel modules, version 530.41.03. Note that the kernel modules built here must be used with GSP firmware and user-space NVIDIA GPU driver components from a corresponding 530.41.03 driver release. Currently, the kernel modules can be built for x86_64 or aarch64. If cross-compiling, set these variables on the make command line. Any reasonably modern version of GCC or Clang can be used to build the kernel modules. Note that the kernel interface layers of the kernel modules must be built with the toolchain that was used to build the kernel. This code base is shared with NVIDIA's proprietary drivers, and various processing is performed on the shared code to produce the source code that is published here. When packaged in the NVIDIA .run installation package, the OS-agnostic component is provided as a binary.

    Zen Kernel

    Zen Kernel

    Zen Patched Kernel Sources

Zen Patched Kernel Sources. This is the top level of the kernel’s documentation tree. Kernel documentation, like the kernel itself, is very much a work in progress; that is especially true as we work to integrate our many scattered documents into a coherent whole. ARC processors are highly configurable and several configurable options are supported in Linux. Some options are transparent to software (i.e cache geometries, some can be detected at runtime and configured and used accordingly, while some need to be explicitly selected or configured in the kernel’s configuration utility.
