(.ALB)

This isn't exactly a feature request.

The DOS version of Tempest 2000 seems to use a special and very obscure Adlib implementation developed by a "Dream Weavers Ltd.". Just how different is this, and is there any way AdPlug can pick it up? Or does anyone know of another game that may use this implementation?

Probably super taboo, but here's the entire /AUDIO folder (so it also has the Roland-related files) from an installed copy: http://www.sendspace.com/file/baeirj

OPL3 support with (L)GPL licensing terms

Although AdPlug already supports YMF262 (OPL3), the existing MAME code carries incompatible licensing terms with the rest of AdPlug, which can impede the adoption of AdPlug. Fortunately, there is another driver source from Robson Cozendey that is distributed under LGPL[1]. However, the code was in Java and was not optimized.

MIDI format support

Although AdPlug already supports MIDI format, there are some MIDI variants yet to be supported by AdPlug, including GMD (General MIDI?), HMI (Human Machine Interface MIDI), HMP (Human Machine Interface MIDI?), HMZ (), MIZ (), MSS (Miles Sound System XMI + MLS/DLS sound bank), RMI(RIFF-MIDI), XMI (Extended MIDI).

XMI is supported by Miles Design Audio Interface Library, which is used in games such as Caesar II. The file structure looks like the IFF/LBM file format, but contains audio data. The above mentioned formats are supported by Wimamp MIDI plugin.

AY-3-8910/YM2149F support?

While technically not a OPL family chip, RdosPlay[1] includes AY->OPL2 convertor, which makes it possible to support AYM, FXM (Fuxoft SoundTrack), PSG (raw AY data), PSG2 (converted AY data), YM (YM2149 log) formats with only OPL-2/3/4 hardware support.

Supporting these formats enables the playback of these file types. These files can be found in melcom's ChipTune Archive[4].

Similarly, it makes little sense to impose limits on audio quality settings when using emulated outputs, or limiting the effects to OPL2 streams when using emulated outputs. Such limits should be removed when using emulated outputs. In fact, why limiting the effects to emulators? Harmonic Effect can be done in hardware by copying and altering relevant OPL2 data streams before sending original and modified streams to separate OPL2 chips, or unused channels of OPL3 chip (or even 2 OPL3 streams to 2 OPL3 devices with different port addresses); Dueling Synths can be done partly in hardware by sending hardware output to OPL device and emulated output to wave device.

OPL-L/MSX tracker support

The Yamaha Y8950 and YM2413 used in the MSX hardware are basically OPL1 and a scaled-down OPL2 respectively, so trackers designed for MSX should have no trouble on playing music in OPL2 hardware. Besides, there are already trackers for MSX[1]. The only issue remain is the digitized sample playback, which would work by using wavetable feature of OPL4 (if the OPL4 emulation is done).
