Features include clever pooling of identical files, no client-side software, and a powerful Apache/CGI user interface.

Release 3.0.0 is a major new release with many new features including:

* New configuration and host CGI editor.

* Rsync hardlink support (needs latest File::RsyncP).

* Decoupled BackupPC_dump from BackupPC_nightly.

* Support for multi-level incrementals.

* Added RSS support from Rich Duzenbury.

* Server file names are now in utf8 and optional conversion to/from client name charsets can be configured. All CGI pages now use the utf8 charset.

* Per-client backups file (that summarizes each backup) can be recovered if corrupted. This is done by storing each backup's metadata to pc/HOST/nnn/backupInfo.

* BackupPC_sendEmail has new options for sending test emails and checking if BackupPC is alive (allowing a cron entry to check if BackupPC is alive).

* New scripts BackupPC_fixupBackupSummary (for recovering corrupted backups files) and BackupPC_tarPCCopy (for copying the hardlinks in the PC data directory).

Features include clever pooling of identical files, no client-side software, and a powerful Apache/CGI user interface.

Major new features since 2.0.2:

* Addition of Archive feature from Josh Marshall. Special clients
can be configured to be archive targets (eg: tape drives, CD-R).

* Major changes from Ryan Kucera to add style sheets to the CGI
interface, allowing easy customization. Added new icons and
BackupPC logo. Numerous navigation improvements.

* A failed full backup is now saved as a partial (incomplete) backup,
provided it includes some files. This can be used for browsing,
restoring etc, and will also form the basis of resuming full
backups.

* Added support for resuming a full backup for rsync. The partial
full is kept, and to resume an incremental is done against the
partial, and a full is done for the rest.

* Added support for Rsync checksum caching. This means that block
and file checksums do not need to be recomputed on the server
when using rsync.

* Added directory history display to BackupPC_Admin, allowing the
user to quickly see which files changed between backups.

* Added exponential expiry option for full backups.

* Various optimizations to BackupPC_nightly to improve performance,
including the ability to run multiple processes in parallel and
splitting the work across multiple nightly runs.

* Blackout periods can now span midnight, and multiple periods are
supported.

* Added Italian translation from Lorenzo Cappelletti, and
Dutch translation from Lieven Bridts.

BackupPC is a perl-based high-performance, enterprise-grade system for
backing up Linux, WinXX PCs, and laptops to a server's disk. Features
include clever pooling of identical files, no client-side software, and
a powerful Apache/CGI user interface.

BackupPC 2.0.0 has some significant new features:

* Support for rsync and rsyncd backup and restore. Provides all the
benefits of rsync (send just deltas) with the server-side pooling
and compression of BackupPC.

* CGI interface now has internationalization (i18n) support.
Langauges available include English, French, Spanish and
German.

* Added optional user-defined pre/post dump/restore commands, allowing
things like database shutdown/startup for dumps.

* Improved the way hosts are found (including multicast or wins lookup),
which in most cases avoids the need for setting dhcp=1 and searching
the dhcp address pool.

include clever pooling of identical files, no client-side software, and
a powerful Apache/CGI user interface.

BackupPC 1.5.0 has some significant improvements:

* A full set of restore options is now supported, including direct
restore via smbclient or tar or downloading a zip or tar file.

* Major additions to CGI script to support better directory navigation,
restore features and mod_perl.

* New script BackupPC_zipCreate (contributed by Guillaume Filion) is the
zip analog of BackupPC_tarCreate. BackupPC_zipCreate can be used to
create a zip archive of any portion of a backup.
