Messages with Blank Subjects Stop Board Posting

Hello,
Thought you might are ordetring on this one vs just a Twitter post.

When a message is created witha blank subject in a board it really seems to affect the board. Any additional messageposts after it do not save but the message counter in the terminal client increments. However no new massagcan be seen in the list in the terminal .....when i look at the message list in the BBS config editor the blank subject message and the subsequent messages all have the same message number for example i had a blank subject message 18 and to subsequent 18 numbered messages both with blank subjects also. Deleteing the messages with blank subjects takes about twice as long as normal delete.

After i delete the blank subject message and the subsequent same number messages ....posting in the board goes back to normal.

This will sure not be done for the upcoming release. This is a feature that needs to be coded into bbs-setup. This is good as it does not mean changes to the server code. So there's a chance it may become part of a minor update of bbs-setup later on.

Another nice to have would be the ability to edit the names of the Boards in the setup ...not sure if thats a hard one.

I realize this takes a lot of work so please understand that I understand that I am putting out ideas and suggestions that may not fit your plan for the BBS development over time but.... I figure I'll still suggest the things that I feel would make the BBS easier to use as I run into them and if you agree and can do them that would be great...if not I do totally understand.

This is not complicated. I'll ask for the new user default ACL in the BBS base setup and then this will be used.

Sorry to be a pain....

just a thought though ...new users register and come in as a 10 with access to all boards...

Im thinking the reverse may be better come in as 1 with minimum board access and then modify as you go.

some bad actors sign as new users just to cause havoc on a bbs....

just a thought...

I'm very happy to hear people like Contiki BBS. It's been around for quite some time but feedback has been rather low.

Just to clarify: the project is not "on hold" or "dead", but there are a few other non-C64 related projects I'm currently working onl.

As for Contiki BBS, I'll probably have to remove some overhead in the code to free up memory for additional features as the Contiki OS framework itself takes up quite some RAM on the C64.

I have added the option to delete messages to my to-do list. It could be implemented in the setup tool. Bascially it's just copying the message file and filtering out the all messages to be "deleted" while retaining the message index.

I hope I can provide a new release later this year, which will then include this feature as it is indeed quite handy.
