I believe I have found (and I have reported upstream) a bug in Samba
4.1.7+ which causes very slow connections for DOS-based clients. Is
there any chance of reverting DL 1.6.6 back to Samba 4.1.6 (or 4.1.5)
instead of 4.1.12?

I don't really want to downgrade samba for everybody.
Don't you build your own DL (don't remember)? If yes, then simply
replace the samba sources.
