If you create a long list with many files and want to later verify just a selection of them it would be much easier to select wanted files if there was a tree view just like in, lets say, windows explorer. Simple, effective and you wouldn't need to scroll so much.

Cheers

Priority, Pause and Summary

From my experience I think that FV++ would greatly benefit if it had the following features:
1) CPU priority setting in the calculation/verification dialog. FV++ uses a lot of CPU power especially on slower machines and is usually a long process so it would be practical to have an 'on-the-fly' priority setting.
2) Pause button in the calculation/verification dialog. Something so simple and obvious that really should be in there.
3) Summary dialog after verification. A dialog with a number of valid, invalid, missing, total and maybe other files.

Please consider my recommendations.

Minimize Button And Completed Soud Effect

Testing: v0.6.6.6050

I have two feature requests. They go hand-in-hand.

1. During a long calculation or verify, it would be extremely useful if FileVerifier++ had a way to be minimized. On Windows there are typically three ways to minimize a program:

A) The "Show Desktop" button to minimize all windows.
B) The 'Windows+M' key combo to minimize all windows.
C) From the program itself to minimize only that program.

Here's the problem.

Option A works. However, as soon as you restore any other running program, FileVerifier++ also restores. It shouldn't do this.
Option B doesn't work on FileVerifier++. It works on all other running programs, but not FileVerifier++. It should do this.
Option C can't work, because FileVerifier++ doesn't have this ability during a calculation or verify. It should have this.

I believe having the option to minimize the entire program to the Taskbar and/or to the Notification Area is a necessity. Certainly an option to minimize to the Notification Area. This would be particularly useful due to FileVerifier++ taking up twice as much space on the Taskbar with it's two Taskbar buttons per task. And, this issue only gets worse with each concurrently running task.

2. Based on the above or perhaps separately, it would be handy if FileVerifier++ had the option to play a sound effect when a calculation or verify is completed. A user selectable one would be ideal. In fact, I have one ready to go. When played it says, "FileVerifier++ Completed". However, a simple System "ding" would be almost as handy. :)

MD5 Hash File Contents

Testing: v0.6.6.6050

This is a minor two part feature request. These are very subjective requests that pertain to the contents of a _saved hash_ file.

First part; I noticed that the saved hash value in the MD5 file uses lowercase letters. Would it be possible to save the hash using uppercase letters for easier reading?

Second part; I think the underscores are sorting incorrectly. Any directory or file that starts with an underscore typically gets sorted above letters and numbers. Currently underscores are being sorted below letters and numbers.

BTW, I previously worked in QA as a beta tester and while I'm now retired, the habit is difficult to break. Please forgive me for these trivial suggestions. :)

Column Spacing

Testing: v0.6.6.6050

This is a two part feature request.

First part; I like how the program allows you to set the initial main GUI window size and it does this easily with the "Get Current" button. Nicely done. What I think would be a good addition to this is the ability to save the column spacing, both currently displayed and those currently not displayed. At the moment, here the main GUI opens much wider than the default column spacing and the columns need to be expanded to fill the area. Would it be possible to save the column spacing?

Second part; I noticed that when you double-click the spacer between columns to expand a column, the column only widens to the widest currently displayed content. Elsewhere the content within the same column may be wider. Would it be possible to widen the column to the widest content regardless of what's currently displayed?

Follow Current File

Testing: v0.6.6.6050

Is it possible to have the Main GUI follow (track) the current file being calculated? One way would be to have the Validation dialog box detached (unlocked) from the Main GUI so that the user can manually scroll up and down, or auto-scroll, to follow the current file. Alternatively, the Validation dialog box could remain locked to the Main GUI, and just have the program auto-scroll. This would be handy when you have many files that exceed the height of the Main GUI, such as when I used 13,000 files, in several nested directories, as a test. This would also be useful since the Validation dialog box has a fixed size and it is not always possible to know which file the program is calculating.

Tag Clearing On Verified Files

Testing: V0.6.6.6050

Would it be possible to removed the tag from an already verified file?

Avoid standby / hibernation

FileVerifier++ should prevent the OS (Windows 7 x64 in my case) to enter standby or hibernation mode while calculation or verification is done.

This feature is implemented in most media players (e.g. no standby as long as music is playing) and is very usefull for this software as well.

Specify hashfile as verification source

Being able to specifiy hashfiles as verification sources.

- Being able to load results of 2 same format hashfiles and cross-verify/compare all entries & their attributes.
- A split pane to display both hash-files results with respect to each other.
