&lt;p&gt;How to reproduce:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;/code&gt;&lt;/pre&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Result: It shows the following message.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;blockquote&gt;
&lt;p&gt;These functions are valid only in the context of data input.  Usually this&lt;br/&gt;
means use in an expression that provides an input field of the &lt;code&gt;using&lt;/code&gt;&lt;br/&gt;
specifier in a &lt;code&gt;plot&lt;/code&gt;, &lt;code&gt;splot&lt;/code&gt;, &lt;code&gt;fit&lt;/code&gt;, or &lt;code&gt;stats&lt;/code&gt; command.  However the&lt;br/&gt;
scope of the functions is actually the full clause of the plot command,&lt;br/&gt;
including for example use of &lt;code&gt;columnhead&lt;/code&gt; in constructing the plot title.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I thinks this corresponds to &lt;a href="http://www.gnuplot.info/docs/loc2742.html" rel="nofollow"&gt;http://www.gnuplot.info/docs/loc2742.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
