Hello. This forum is for Meteorologist Classic (MC). I have verified that MC runs on the latest macOS v26.3, including Apple Silicon. I do not know the status of Meteorologist.

Hello, I noticed that the application is no longer starting up, even after reinstall. After research it seems like the license for the app with apple expired, does anyone know when this will be fixed?

I have added internationalization (i18n) support for the next release. This means the app's text can automatically display in your preferred language. The missing piece is the translated text. If you would like to contribute translations, please use the Localizable.strings file in the svn repo. Thanks!

I have released beta version, v1.8.5.999, which I expect to be the last beta before the next release. This beta is another small batch of bug fixes. The code just needs some more clean up, and I expect to release the stable version soon.

First of all, I feel badly for promising in my previous message about the next release within weeks, just before my circumstances changed, leaving me with very little time. Under the circumstances, fixing a few bugs turned into rewriting another, and another, and yet another piece of code I had been meaning to. Several fixes were due to the weather services changing their APIs, including one from just a few days ago.

Considering the lengthy lapse and current code, I can make available a beta version, v1.8.59, in the Files area which is close to release quality. Mainly, I'm simply cleaning up the code. I rewrote substantial pieces of code, but the user-facing effects should be minor. That is, you should notice changes, mostly intentional. If you think something is wrong, please mention it - this is the purpose of beta releases. Thanks for your patience!

I plan to release v1.8.6 soon, counting in weeks - not this week, maybe next week, though probably later. Besides several minor bug fixes, I found the occasion to rewrite an internal data structure for more efficiency. It was planned long ago, I just finally got around to it.

At least for those who see this before upgrading, v1.8.6 will require deleting the prefs file and then adding your locations from scratch. So before upgrading, you may want to take screenshots of your locations list.

If you upgrade without seeing this first, apologies for the inconvenience. Hopefully these are few and far in between.

Meteorologist Does not Start on Macbook Air M2

I had Meteorologist for very long. Always worked pretty good. After v4 It just simply does not start. Double click on the app, nothing happens. If I go to the Activity Monitor, I don't see any associated process. Reinstalled, to no avail. Any help to make the meteorologist work would be appreciated.

Hi. This is the project area for Meteorologist Classic (MC). You posted a separate forum topic just before this one but clearly meant to post in the other forum. I can only speak for MC as the developer, but I'll share a few thoughts to your questions.

MC can display forecasts inline with the primary menu, but MC does not support hourly. Only some weather sources provide hourly data. Would you like to see both hourly and daily? Only hourly? The menu display would be highly variable.
Mac App Store guidelines prohibit some kinds of open source apps. Adding an auto-update mechanism is a huge piece of code that many open source projects cannot afford. This is a labor of love.
Which icon are you referring to? If the app icon, I believe it is high-res, at least MC's is high-res, but not Apple Retina high-res. I think the original icon was based on vector graphics and could be upscaled, but I don't have graphic expertise. Would you, or any other volunteer, like to improve the images?
