<div class="markdown_content"><p>When the user has no administrative privileges, the java.util.prefs.WindowsPreferences code tries to open the Java preferences registry key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. When not present (which is the case on a clean install), it cannot create it and fails with the following message:</p> <p>java.util.prefs.WindowsPreferences &lt;init&gt;<br /> WARNING: Could not open/create prefs root node Software\JavaSoft\Prefs at root<br /> 0x80000002.
