I'm a student of computing and I take care about your framework recently. I'd like to know how to impose a TextFigure or a LabelFigure the multilined target... if, of course, it is possible.
My preference is to use de TextFigure for this insue, this way I would edit the field.

Will Applet need javax.jdo and org.apache.batik.dom packages

In the future, will Draw Applet need javax.jdo and
org.apache.batik.dom packages?
It seems that the javax.jdo and org.apache are not
included in jre1.4.
This will make the applet size real big and increase
the loading time.

resize of Diagram (StandardDrawingView)

I am not sure which is the best possibility to deal with
resizing of Figures.
1. Problem) I would like to expand Nodes by mouse
dynamically. The standard mechanism resizes the Node-
Figures automatically according to its contents (incl.
Figures).

2. Problem) In case the Node is either enlarged or
moved out of the current diagram-size
(StandardDrawingView-Dimensions) for e.g. by any
mathematical Layout-Algorithm, how is the diagram to
be informed resp. resized? Is there an automatic resize-
mechanism, if yes how is it to be initialized?

the method mentioned above is currently protected and
not used anywhere. However, there are situations where
it would be useful to be able to call it from outside
(or to access the locator directly)

Suggestion: make method public or add a getLocator() method

I know, its me again :D

I think we need to create a specification. At this
point we are making the code the specification which I
dont think is a good thing. New people have to read
the code to get the jist of the definition of the
objects. Maybe we just need more commenting at the
beginning of each class to say what it is and what it
is not.

Like right now i am making some example changes to
DrawApplication and I sometimes get stuck wondering
how I should split the functionality between methods.

Is a DrawingView always going to extend a Component in
this Java architecture? Should I check it before I
add it to the Container to be sure it is a Component
or should I simply cast on the fly?

any ideas?

Toolbuttons greyed out

With JHotDraw 5.3, all sample Applications
(plus the one I am developing) which do not use the MDI interface
but rather the single-document based one (i.e. DrawApplication-derived)
do not let me select any of the tool buttons - they stay greyed out
all the time.
The tool buttons do work as expected with the MDI_DrawApplication.

I could not find any relevant information in the history but since
it works with the MDI version I suppose there has been a slight
API change I (and the maintainers of the relevant example apps)
have overseen and would appreciate any help to get things
working as they are intended to.

I am making an application which uses a database. As
such there can be no open documents when the
application starts.

I am attempting to start JHotDraw without a default
InternalFrame open. It seems to accomplish this I
must override DrawApplication.open(). But within
DrawApplication.open() there seems to be a lot of
private variables being used. What is going to be the
effect of not initializing these private variables?

I am going to have to create my own toolbar and main
window and everything...But I can almost cut-paste
that code. I am just concerned that some private
variable may not get properly initialized.

Is there a clean way to start the application without
a default drawing open?

How to use popupmenu

Hi, I have a question on using popupmenu in JHotDraw
5.2.

I tried to put a popup menu on my figure object which
extends RectangleFigure class.

I added createPopupMenu() method in my figure source
file and called "setAttribute( Figure.POPUP_MENU,
createPopupMenu() );" method in the constructor. But
it didn't work for some reason.

I checked if the POPUP_MENU attribute is proprely set
and I found that when my tool is added to the toolbar,
setAttribute() and createPopupMethod() is called, but
when handlePopupMenu() method is called, POPUP_MENU is
set to null for some reason.

I don't understand what's happening here. I add
POPUP_MENU attribute, but it disappeared later.
