a installed libayemu in calling of ayemu_start() with -layemu.&lt;br /&gt;
nm /lib/&amp;lt;installpath&amp;gt;/libayemu*|grep ayemu&lt;br /&gt;
does indeed show, that a correctly installed libayemu&lt;br /&gt;
doesn't contain any symbols matching ayemu_start.&lt;br /&gt;
Replacing ayemu_start() in the configure script with&lt;br /&gt;
an (indeed existant) ayemu_init() solved the problem: &lt;br /&gt;
configure wouldn't complain about a missing libayemu anymore and compilation would just work as smoothly.&lt;br /&gt;
My system is Debian/GNU-Linux, gcc-4.1, libayemu-0.9.5, xmms-vtx-0.8.1.&lt;br /&gt;
