This is tabular data and should be easier to read. We also need to line up the columns so the data is easier to scan over.

Make paste work in the AGA ID field

When an ID is on the clipboard it should be possible to paste it into the AGA ID field by control-v or by right clicking within the widget which should pop up a menu which has "paste" on it. left clicking the "paste" menu item should paste what is on the clipboard into the AGA ID field. Neither method of pasting works in TD version 2.0. It shouild also be possible to paste into the Rank field, though that need is much less pressing. In version 2.0 it is possible to paste into the name filed with control-v. It should also be possible to paste into teh name filed by right clocking within the field and then choosing "paste" from the menu that ought to have popped up but in TD version 2.0 does not.

Improved tab handling

Right now the TD can't really enter the players by hand because the tab order isn't working very well. If we fixed the tab order the TD wouldn't need to mouse around very much and we could reduce registration time.

Let the TD adjust handicaps

There are some cases where the TD might want to adjust the handicap for a game. Maybe in keeping with the AGA tournament handicap rules.

From the AGA McMahon Pairing Protocol Standards:

It is common for Tournament Directors to reduce handicaps by one or even two stones. Pairing programs must allow a tournament to run with full handicap, handicap minus 1, handicap minus 2 or no handicap (all games even). Programs must also have the option to ensure that all games involving players in the top band are even, regardless of the handicap settings for the remainder of the field. Programs must also provide the TD with the option to adjust the handicap for a particular game after pairing is complete.

The rest of that document can be found here:
http://www.usgo.org/tournaments/TournamentStandards/

Integration with the AGA TD file

The AGA provides a TD file with a list of every Go player who has ever registered with the AGA, their rank, and when their membership expires. If we let TDs import the file we could supply type ahead to finish people's names. Then we could fill in their rank and AGA number. We could also warn the TD if the players AGA membership had expired.

Since the AGA TD list is at a well known URL in XML (http://www.usgo.org/usa/tdlist.xml) we could make this a one-click type of operation if the user was online. We also need to let them import the file from their local file system if they are offline.

The one issue here is performance. The AGA TD list is pretty large and doing live search might be a little slow. We'll need to do a little testing. If it is too slow one solution might be to integrate a light weight SQL database like HSQL. It would make our download larger, but it is a single JAR file.

Alternate pairing strategies

Discussion from email feedback:

> 3) Related to this, it might be good to (give the option to) reverse
> the importance, during pairing, of even games and similar win records.
> We have a lot of very high handicaps in our tournament; high dan
> players come to a tournament for games against other strong players,
> not to give 8 or 9 stones to kyu players.

Trying to get a single winner at the end does often lead to high handicaps in
the later rounds. This is simply a style of tournament. If you have another
pairing scheme in mind I would love to hear about it. How do you figure out who
should play whom?

Remove restriction on creating bands

There is currently a minimum number of players required to create a band, but this could be removed

Assign Board Numbers

When pairings are done, listing the board numbers along with the pairings would be nice.
