Written by G.F. Root, think civil war era march meets Coldplay.

This needs four octaves, so you really need a keyboard to play it. The qwerty virtual piano runs out of keys.

Download and extract either zip or rar version into the songs folder.

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/musicgames/musicinairsong.zip

In this new take on the “Space Invaders” genre, you don't move your ship. Instead, you control an array of lasers, each operated by the keys of your keyboard.

If you have a piano keyboard use that. Otherwise the game will turn your computer keyboard into a piano.

Shoot the Valkyrie vessels when they are vulnerable crossing the ice zone, otherwise they become untouchable once they've passed the zone.

Each time you complete a phase of music, you'll advance through space. Watch out for the mystery vehicle that appears sometimes when you scroll. It releases crystal balls, and if you puncture them you release crystals.
Collect enough, and earn an extra life.

You could think of it as Guitar Hero for piano, but using a real instrument rather than a simplifed controller.

New song available - "Music in the Air"

This release adds to our first music game a new song that you can learn - "Music in the Air". --------------

the Million Musician Challenge has added a new song that you can learn from the same game - Sloop John B. This is a traditional West Indian song made famous by the Beach Boys. It's difficulty rating is 'less easy'.

To access the new song, download the archive (either .zip or .rar format) and extract into the songs directory which is below the directory containing the game executable file. The new song will be in the song selections scroll box of the set-up screen next time you run the game.

This is the first test of the new functionality to handle externally supplied songs. All feedback welcome.

MMC is a PC game in which you control a number of characters at once using a keyboard (either the computer keyboard or a music keyboard). Each time you successfully catch the falling object, you play a correct note in a tune. In this way, as you
progress through the levels you learn to play the music. You could think of it as Guitar Hero for piano, but using a real instrument rather than a simplifed controller.

Start with the song 'Good morning to you' ('Happy Birthday to You'). Move up to Beethoven's 'Fur Elise'.

The game now runs on all screen resolutions. It provides a log file to help identify keyboards that are not currently supported.

This version stops 'repeat key' playing notes when using QWERTY keyboard on Windows machines.

Improved memory management means it should run with full graphics on higher resolution screens.

A video is available at http://www.free-music-games.net/winston-and-portland-piano-lesson.html

Million Musician Challenge 0.802 Released

This release sets up a consistent naming convention to allow you to find the correct file to download. See release notes for details.

It also fixes some issues with using higher screen resolutoins, and sppeds up load time.

.exe and .jar versions are available simultaneously.

Million Musician Challenge Release 0.801. Simpler

A game that teaches you to play 'Good Morning To You', which you probably know as the tune to 'Happy Birthday To You'. **

It works on a qwerty or music keyboard.

This version is more suitable as an introductory game- the pace is slower to start, and the tune itself is much simplified. This is the recommended version to download.

It also fixes some bugs related to scoring short and long songs.

A Java jar file and a Windows .exe are available.

** 'Good Morning To You' is public domain. 'Happy Birthday to You' may or may not be copyright

Please let me know if it works, at the forums: http://sourceforge.net/forum/?group_id=170047
