Hello everyone, This project has been archived and will no longer be supported by me. After 15+ years I no longer have a rabbit running, or a WPA network. Feel free to fork the project if you wish to work on it. I will leave you with one final gift: assuming you didn't notice, there is a rabbit.py in the firmware folder. You can use that to hear your rabbit announce the time on your machine. That's what I use now to hear my rabbit's voice. Good luck to all of you!

G'day, I did some investigation about the missing weather forecast. It seems, that the Curl command is rejected by Yahoo Servers, because of a wrong Useragent. Thanks for the hint. I did indeed test with only 1 Rabbit. the issue with stuttering is sticked to these 2 Rabbits. Sound like a hardware issue to me. Good idea to check rabbits version. If different, is there a way to flash them?

hmmm, I ran two rabbits once for more of a test without any problems. Maybe the server is kinda overloaded. Try make two rabbits say the time at 00 and the other two 02. If they don't stutter then it's a server problem. The only way to get around that, is use TWO raspberry pies, 1 server controlling 2 rabbits, and the other server controlling the other 2, but, lucky for you, a raspberry pi zero W/ WIFI is like 15 bucks. so ... would be cheap fix. Another Question are all the rabbits the same version?...

Hello, I have 4 Rabbits running around my house. 2 of the 4 are working like expected without any kind of stuttering. . The 2 others are stuttering while playing mp3 or while doing some light sequence. I can see the LED in the "bally" of the Rabbits that is stuttering too. First I thought it is an issue with the power supply, because one of them diet and I replaced it with an USB-Power Supply. But after exchanging between the power supply, it doesn't made any change. Thanks, that worked! The hardest part was creating a password for user pi on a headless setup since there's no more default user in the current versions of the OS. In the past, I would dd an image of the whole SD to keep a backup in case it got corrupted - making a backup of the database is much easier if I ever need it.

In the recent update published by Pokey (thanks) I got an error message from the scripts... checking for /var/www/html ----------------------------------------------------------* Whoops. Apache does not appear to be installed in /var/www/html. Aborting. Is this an old OS? It looks like I'm still running wheezy on the Raspberry Pi Model A serving as the my rabbit hutch, and there's no easy way to upgrade to Buster or Bullseye other than reinstalling the OS. But I don't want to lose my hutch settings...

Hi Pokey, I have updated my installation and did some tests. It looks good for the cloud forecast, but temperature is for from reality. The temperature here is measured in Celsius in my installation. We have here where I live now -1 degrees Celsius and my rabbit says 31 degree. Could there be a mix-up in Celsius/Fahrenheit. Thanks Kuumaur

Hi, when I type "ifconfig | grep addr" in my raspberry pi command line, I do not get a response. When I type in localhost, I reach the NabaztagLives website, but with "Warning - unable to determine IP." on the bottom. (It also says "Point your rabbit to 127.0.1.1" on the bottom.) The tutorial states that I should get an IP that starts with 192, any advice?

No. I found some firmware that said it would work for wpa2 but it never did. Thr only solution is to set up your own wifi server on the pi and use wpa1 security.

Bug: When you have multiple Nabaztags, the browser skips the 'update rabbit' page form and jumps to the (last) Nabaztag ID used. So page updateRabbit.php is skipped immediately, and the past content of the form is presented to updateRabbit2.php. My patch changes this by ignoring the session's rawSerialNbr by both PHP files. Now, whenever pressing on 'Update Rabbit' the form is presented and allows setting a different ID.

My rabbit worked only with wpa wifi network, not WPA2. I ended configuring the raspi as a wifi hotspot with wpa authentication. It might be the same problem for you. Hi - I found my old rabbit and am trying to get it working. I was able to get the server up on pi, but now I cant even get the rabbit to give me even one green light. I did a reinstall from scratch by using install.sh -nodb. Now the Rabbits cant connect to the server. Hello Kuumaur, Please see footnote #3 in apiinfo.htm regarding streaming, below. (3) Supports 32kbps mp3 m3u streams. The link you provide can either be the url inside the .m3u link or the .m3u link itself. If you get a blinking nose and no audio, try a different stream. Streams with high bit rates may not work. The payload is between the URL you choose and your rabbit; it does not come back to this server for any processing. I'm able to stream this via api: http://live.kvmr.org:8000/dial.m3u

It seems to be, that the whole api.php call has an issue, as long as i am not doing things wrong. Here is my command: curl http://192.168.200.88/api.php?sn=00:11:22:33:44:55&stream=http://play.rockantenne.de/rockantenne.m3u It is working on the web page. Another thing I identified is, that when I call the api.php to do tts, than when the next cron job is running, the rabbit is saying the time twice. Br Kuu Maur

Hi Kuumaur, There is no logout button so you will need to close your browser and reopen to switch rabbits. It's a minor inconvenience but I think it's better than having to enter the serial # every time you visit the site and most people only have one rabbit so it's not an issue. Hi, since iam using NabaztagLives, i got the issue, that a can open the Webpage to add or update an Rabbit, but after doing the modification, i was never new able to switch to another Rabbit. The webpage or the settings are stuck at the first entered Rabbit. That was never a real issue for me. Fanstastic, thank you so much. Just changed my network with a new router and had to reconnect my bunny to point to the Raspberry PI. I did that my going to AP set up mode (blue lights) and managed that. Bunny stopped the orange and green lights, but just went very quiet and stopped doing anything even though I knew the PI was connecting to BBC weather. Once I spotted 'locator records are invalid' I did a search and found this. Bunny is fully animated now.

Hi all, Firstly, a thank you. The latest update seemed to fix a few things for me. Not only does the weather report give the numbers in Celsius (not just the units), but I was also able to use the update bunny page successfully (previously this hasn't been working for me). If you can share a tips jar link, I'd gladly contribute. I'm now super pleased with the new functionality this brings, but I did find a new bug though: now when I go to the update bunny page it defaults to the first bunny I updated....

Hi Jaume, Unfortunately Twitter made things too complicated. To use the API, each user would have to create their own dev account in order to get the consumer secret, etc. The TWURL command line app would probably be a much simpler way to implement the API call, but it still requires that each indidivual create a dev account. Did you look at this? It looks like it is available as a gem package. You should see some of the emails I get. A lot of users struggle just to turn the rabbit on. : )

Hi again, One pbm I can't seem to see is that rabbit is not emitting sound. The wav and mp3 files are correctly done, but it won't talk. It doesn't always happen, but I don't know what triggers this issue. When using the speak button it plays the synthetised sound though. Hello pokey, I have been working in upgrading to the "new" twitter api. I have used a library: twitteroauth I found I had to change the Request.php from this library in line 23 in order to work with my php installation. I think the cause is my raspbian stretch (I haven't yet updated to buster), but I cannot test it. Here you can find attached patches. This patches lack the information necessary to get the oauth and consumer tokens/keys/secrets. Can you give it a try and provide me some feedback?...

Hi Jaume, I think we should just add the timezones to the SQL script, rather than dynamically generating them with timedatectl each time the install runs. If you will run your script and send me the new insert statements, I will add them to the SQL setup script.

Hello pokey, The timezones set up in db/rabbit_pi.sql don't include my timezone. For a while I added it to the database, but lately I thought it would be better to add them all. I modified the install.sh and rabbit_pi.sql in order to add all the timezones dynamically. The downside is that after executing install script, the rabbit_pi.sql changes and it is seen by git. I got all my Rabbits now up and saying the Weather. If i change to Fahrenheit, then it seems to be ok. Sometimes the Rabbits do not say the Temperature, just the Weather.

Hello pokey, Weather in celsius is not working correctly. The problem I find is that the response from yahoo in the json is in farenheit, and then when by conf the rabbit is in celsius, the mp3wrap tries to play an inexistent mp3 (80 Farenheit for example). I have made a small patch that reads the units from yahoo response and then if necessary converts it to selected units for the rabbit. I attach the patch. Tell me what you think. Thank you!

Ok, i got 1 Rabbit saying the weather forecast, but it is definetly fahrenheit and not celsius. I have now the exact settings an both rabbits, but only 1 is acting, the other is still "snowing". Is there some kind of cache or timeout to clear or to wait for?

I can not reproduce a working setup. Wether with the "London" example nor with https in front or only yahoo.com or weather.yahoo.com or www.yahoo.com. Is there an debug output where i can get more information to investigate? I'm not saying that i think that i'm mad, but i'm close to... thinking of. That could also be a corona lock down issue here.

Hi, ok, my fault. RTFM. Yes, when i put the whole URL into the field, then it works ... but the output seems to be in Fahrenheit and not in Celcius. Do you have an idea?

I used a different method to get the bunny v1 to connect to my server on the raspberry. My raspberry provides DHCP and DNS services to the bunny using dnsmasq and in my config, I override the DNS resolving of the p.nabaztag.com hostname. My /etc/dnsmasq.conf looks like this: interface=wlan0 dhcp-range=192.168.201.100,192.168.201.150,255.255.255.0,24h address=/p.nabaztag.com/192.168.201.1 This way, I don't have to do any special configuration tricks for the v1.

I have fixed the save rabbit page for the Buster distro (but see note below regarding the install). You should be able to register new rabbits now. However, there are some major changes in the new distro. For one, the pico TTS engine we were using is not available as a debian package, and it fails to install. That means none of the TTS stuff works (engadget, BBC, etc.) PHP was a major change and went to 7 from 5. There may be some more issues. Note: the install script is still broken for the Buster...
