We released a new version of NeSSi2.

Main changes to the previous version:

Switched to Java 7
User interface is now also build using Maven and Tycho plugins for Maven
Added support for simulating energy networks
Added support for synchronizing simulations between energy and IP networks

Note: Due to changes in build system, the Maven project changes for creating NeSSi2 application projects has changed. Details will be described in the upcoming manual, until then please have a look at the example project.

Note 2: Due to the introduction of support for energy networks, the underlying models for networks have changed severely. This resulted in many API changes. All old NeSSi2 application and networks are not compatible with the new version.

Fixed a broken Zip-file (Win32)

The zip-file for the Win32 version was damaged, after decompressing it showed duplicate files. We replaced it with an (hopefully) undamaged version.

NeSSi2 beta.6 released (part 1)

Dear NeSSi2 users,

we are happy to announce the first part of new NeSSi2 release. The main changes in this release are:

Support for simulation artifact repositories: This feature is based on Maven and is still experimental.
Support for multiple networks in one project.
Plug-in API for defining termination conditions for simulations.
Support for synchronizing simulations.

The upcoming part two of this release will also allow simulating energy networks. Currently we are in the process of creating icons for the editor, than can be distributed with NeSSi2. Also this part is developed in an ongoing research project, so there still may be some last minute changes required, if discover problems in running our experiments. So hopefully, the second part will be available within the next three months.

Fixed Bug: New Version 2.0.0-beta.5 is Up

we fixed a critical defect of the 2.0.0-beta.5 and uploaded it again.

Hello dear NeSSi² user,
we are happy to announce the new beta5 version!

Changes from beta3 to beta5:

New Features:

- A Project Builder keeps track of file modifications in the UI and updates inner resources
(e.g. Profiles modified outside a scenario will be updated when they change)

- A Basic XML Editor with syntax highlightning has been added to NeSSi to ease editing recorder configurations

- Networks & Subnets can be automatically layouted in various ways (configurable via preferences)

- Nodes have one position per subnet, moving a node does not affect other subnets anymore

- Added better support for renaming elements in a network (via context menu or if 'F2' is pressed)

- New components can be installed into NeSSi via eclipse-update sites (self-update is planned)

- More robust handling of erroneous simulations & better feedback on UI-side

Bug Fixes:

- Instantiation of TCP/IP applications on the backend produced errors

- Applications deployed on unconnected Nodes produced errors during simulation

- Better documentation on the parameters of the UDP-Application

- @Description annotations are displayed as tooltips in profile editor

- Many minor issues

This is a bug fix release for 2.0.0-beta.2:

* Annotations used in developing own devices and application no longer require public visibility, if they do not directly sub-class the abstract classes provided in the API.
* Generation of identifiers for connections and network elements in rare cases duplicated identifiers, this should be fixed now.
* The handling of relative file names and absolute file names on Windows resulted in the creation of two SQLite files (one for the UI and one for the backend), instead of one shared file.

Visit us in hall 9 both b47 as part of the future life area!

Hall 9 hosts the future parc and the future life area. NeSSi² will be part of the technology corner in future life area.

The NeSSi² team will present a simulation that shows a DDoS attack that originates in home environments and attacks different targets in enterprise networks. NeSSi² will also be used to show how security applications can be used to fend off these attacks.

Of course we are more than happy to discuss and show any feature of NeSSi² your are interested in.

The NeSSi² team looks forward at meeting you at CeBIT 2009 in Hannover.
