&lt;p&gt;Among other these features have been requested for PHPCoder v. 2.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;PHP Coder version 2.0 Features:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;#1 Use plain text XML configuration Files&lt;br /&gt;
#2 Incorporate Smarty template engine for better application/visual seperation&lt;br /&gt;
#3 No longer requires source directory to be writable&lt;br /&gt;
#4 Ability to skip file types, specific files, and specific directories&lt;br /&gt;
#5 Re-designed class interface in preperation for PHP 5&lt;br /&gt;
#6 Use of PEAR error handling &lt;br /&gt;
#7 Adoption of PEAR PHP Code Guidelines&lt;br /&gt;
#8 Modular encoder class, capable of supporting encoders other than Turck MMCache&lt;br /&gt;
#9 New UI, more extensive use of CSS&lt;br /&gt;
#10 Provide own message or default message on lack of loader&lt;br /&gt;
#11 Easy way to alter PHP specific options through set_ini automatically&lt;br /&gt;
#12 PHP Pre-Processor Support&lt;br /&gt;
#13 Support for copying files that are not in the original source tree&lt;br /&gt;
#14 Support for prepending/appending multiple files to each source file such as licenses automatically&lt;br /&gt;
#15 Support for not encoding (Pre-Processor Only Mode)&lt;br /&gt;
#16 Handle symbolic links properly, keep track of what files have already been encoded/processed and only process them once.&lt;br /&gt;
#17 All PHPCoder code in PHPDoc format for easy manual generation&lt;br /&gt;
