Every time it runs the backup, it prompts me for the root password. Which means that I have to remember to get up from my desk, walk over to the server and enter this every afternoon. It would be nice if it could save the root password instead.

documentation and up front info

Some documentation and up-front info in the package
BEFORE people have to commit to an install

Terminal when backing up interactively.

I like iTerm, which is a scriptable, tabbed terminal. I have recompiled the
source using a new applescript tailored towards iTerm. I ran several
backups at once, each in a different and it worked great.

Specify alternative .psync.db on command line

Currently the tool stores ownership and permissions in
.psync.db at the root of the destination directory.

I suggest the option of specifying an alternative
.psync.db on the command line so the database can
reside in another directory or on another filesystem if
necessary. The reason for this request is as follows.

My current backup plan requires the whole drive to be
backed up weekly, the '/Users' data areas every 2 days
and the '/Library/WebServer' data to be backed up
nightly. They are all to lie within the structure:

/

Users/

Library/

WebServer/

i.e. as well as getting backed up on their own schedule,
the Users and WebServer directories also get backed up
on the weekly schedule for the whole drive.

The plan is fine, except I am left with 3 database files.
One in /, one in /Users and one in /Library/WebServer

It would be enormously advantageous to be able to
specify that the tool use the database in / for storing
data when backing up Users and WebServer directories.

backing up of bookmarks and mail

Perhaps a preset or simple option that would include bookmarks,
One minor complaint: when it
copies files to a volume that has been made invisible
('SetFile -a V'), it makes the volume visible again. I prefer
my backup partitions to be hidden during normal usage.
Thanks!

Allow identification as different user

Thanks for PsyncX! Great software already.

I like to do all my work as a standard user. Currently it is somewhat
tedious in Mac OS X to switch to a different user for just a short
moment. (Except from the Terminal of course)

So could you allow that users identify themselves as a different
(admin!) user which can then perform the backup as usual?

Thanks.

machine, why not have the option of using SSH to back up remotely?
that would solve a few of my problems for sure :) as well as it is
much more secure to back up even locally through ssh.

logging would be very nice as well, show what was copied and any
errors.

keep up the good work

One thing that I would like to see would be a way to backup to a not mounted network drive and also to restore from a not yet mounted network drive. The speed on this program is great. Thank you.
