Hello sqlite-wince-users, So, after previous talk we had that it would be nice to have a page with list of 3rd-party ports of SQLite for WinCE, I've found couple of minutes to day to start something like that: http://www.sqlite.org/cvstrac/wiki?p=SqlitePorts Feel free to browse and add content ;-) -- Best regards, Paul mailto:pf...@us... |

So I wouldn't think it should be too difficult to install phpWiki or something. But I agree that maybe using the main SQLite wiki site would have its advantages. I will think on that. > Yep, as currently there's a typo in the news: "Merged "stable" v3.0.7 > The first "stable" version for the 3.x branch is merged. > Get it here. > 2004-10-29" - note the date ;-) . Well, Wiki is sure nice. But unless I'm missing the latest
news, Sf doesn't provide own Wiki service, though it might be possible
to install some implementation on project's site. Or another option is
to use Wiki at main Sqlite site and link it from your site!

Yep, as currently there's a typo in the news: "Merged "stable" v3.0.7
The first "stable" version for the 3.x branch is merged.
Get it here.
2004-10-29" - note the date ;-) .

Hello Paul, This are great news for me, and I'm sorry I didn't received your previous mail. With all this spam going on, I have no idea if I didn't received it at all or if I deleted it without reading. If I did the latter, sorry about that. Now I can understand better why I don't have much feedback ;) As I didn't had any negative reports over the one year this project is up, I decided to change the status to Stable/Production, but now I can really be comfortable with that. About the links section I was wondering if it would be possible to create a Wiki in the SourceForge site. That would permit anyone to post his views about SQLite in Windows CE. A Wiki FAQ would also be better to maintain. The problem is I'm no web expert in any way, so I will have to learn how that could be done (if possible at all). Another little thing I would like to learn how to do would be find some way to link the site news with the SourceForge project news RSS feed. If any web expert out there that could teach me how to do it, feel free to speak ;) Anyway, just want to remind everyone that my work was minimal, all hard work is due to D. Richard Hipp who launched SQLite in the first place. Without his work to make SQLite easily portable for others architectures this project would probably not seen the light of day. Hello sqlite-wince-users,
Some time ago I wrote mail below to Nuno, but haven't got a
response. Maybe I sent it to address no longer active, or those were
evil mail filters, but either way I try to forward it here.
This is a forwarded message
From: Paul Sokolovsky
To: Nuno Lucas
Date: Thursday, September 9, 2004, 12:30:41 AM
Subject: Thanks for sqlite-wince
===8<==============Original message text===============
Hello Nuno,
We once exchanged a few mails wrt to sqlite-wince, and I'd like
to continue it.
First of all, I would like to thank you for continued
development and being so quick with 3.x support! Website update is
also great!
First, I'd like to share my experience with QAing the port. As we
both agreed, the Tcl testsuite is most awkward part of it. But alas, we
have it. So, before going further with writing apps using sqlite-ce, I
wanted to check if it's sane enough. I tried to use Tcl port at
http:// and compile sqlite module for it. Without too much success.
Then, I tried to port it from scratch using arm-wince-gcc I mentioned
( http://mamaich.kasone.com ). I did a non-multithreading port and run
testuite on it. All applicable tests passed! (some did not make sense
on WinCE, for example, large files support). Then, I tried to proceed
with multi-threading Tcl, and that's where I stopped, as doing such
port is less trivial. To summarize, following config passed all the
test which were applicable:
SQLite 2.8.13 - arm-wince-gcc port (using it's own libc)
Tcl 8.4.6 compiled as "Unix" single-threaded
iPaq 4150/WM2003
Well, as you see, it's not easily reproducible, but I hope still
interesting for you to know.
And second, I'd like to suggest to open "Links" section on
SQLite-WinCE website and would like to contribute few first links.
Important thing for using SQLite on WinCE would be availability of
frontends to manage database. You might be surprised, but due to it's
licensing nature (public domain), sqlite was ported into several
commercial products on WinCE - in rather silent manner. You can find
links here: http://ewe.e-masi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1032#1032 .
I guess it would be nice to post links on the site, as it gives a good
start to users (and eSQL is free for personal use).
The other important thing is of course bindings! There's binding
for Ewe language (Java clone) - the whole topic on the link above is
about it (direct link is
http://ewe.e-masi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=389 ). And recently I
spotted pysqlite port (Python):
http://mail.python.org/pipermail/pythonce/2004-September/000722.html .
As you see, both these ports don't even have stable sites yet, but
nonetheless I think it would be very nice to announce them on the main
site to draw people's attention to them.
Thanks for your efforts!
Best,
Paul

Hello, I downloaded the 3.0 version of sqlite-wince which includes a file about how to compile the source code. I opened up Embedded visual C++, added all the includes and source files but I can't figure out how to add files to the "include list" as step 4 says.. Also, I'm guessing this can't be compiled under Visual Studio .NET? Thanks, Geoffeg |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I released a new merge with the merge of v3.0.6 code. The stack overflow is now fixed, not because of the new version, but because I now define SQLITE_MAX_PAGE_SIZE to 1024 in the "config.h" file. I found that value as the maximum (in a 1024 bytes alignment) I could put and not get a stack overflow exception inserting 50000 rows (with two ints). The other workaround would be to increase the application stack size to 1 MB (instead of the default 64 KB). If anyone wants to get the maximum performance out of SQLite in Windows CE, it will have to experience with this values and make some performance comparisons. Well, if someone does it, please post it here ;) Best regards, ~Nuno Lucas -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFBOC1LnFlqIsMPaxERApf0AKC/Q5fiPiRxCC+HN+UXQju94wi8HwCdEhMF PZd6UCPlZna2IzMVyzuhIsQ= =Z0tt -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Yes, I noticed that with another user and that's what I advised him to do. I'm currently writing a PocketPC-application > using the 3.0.3-version. Any idea when the bugs will be fixed? The problem is a stack overflow that occurs every time you insert the 113th row in a table (in memory and in files). I also tested the 3.0.4 version and the results were the same. I don't have the time now to hunt that bug down, and as SQLite 3 is still beta I don't want to chase a bug that could be fixed in the next release (I know 3.0.5 is out, but I didn't had the opportunity to check it yet). You can track the bug report here: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=586506&aid=1015158&group_id=88393 Regards, ~Nuno Lucas |

Hi, I have a minor issue with the 3.0.3 version of the WinCE port. The localtime function and the time.h header is available in the PocketPC 2003 SDK but not implemented. I've found no lib-file containing the code. After updating the code to use the sqlitewce_localtime function everything works fine. I've seen on the homepage that the 3.0.3-version has a major flaw. What's the problem with it? I'm currently writing a PocketPC-application using the 3.0.3-version. Any idea when the bugs will be fixed? Thanks for your work! Greets, jochen |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |
