I installed the beta6 today and I'm impressed.  Beta 6 was able to do 
data edit and had other improvements but I wasn't able to work without 
an undo in the SQL panel.  Now, beta6 is just flying.  I see that even 
some error messages that didn't show up in 1.1 final1 do show up, now.

I am still running into problems when trying to edit a field:=20

COLUMN_NAME  TYPE_NAME  COLUMN_SIZE  DECIMAL_DIGITS=20=20
STATUS  SMALLINT   		5 		0=20=20


This is clearly a small int.=20

So, why does squirrel give me the following message when I try to change
the data in the field from a 0 to a 1.=20

"Exception seen during check on db... [SQL0180] Syntax of date, time or
timestamp not valid..."

I seem to be getting this for any numeric field, small int, decimal etc.
In fact the only fields I can change seem to be VARCHAR.=20

sql12 is the correct module for SQuirreL 1.2betaX.

If you look in sql12/plugins you'll see a few.

Which plugin to look at depends on what kind of plugin you're writing. 
For example, I'm writing a SQL Server plugin, so I looked at 
sql12/plugins/mysql for starters.

I am trying to create a sample plugin to get started with squirrel. I 
would appreciate if you can tell me which cvs module to pick up. 
I would like to know if I should use 1)sql12  or 2)squirrel or 
3)squirrel-sql .

I would also like to know which is a good example to start building a 
plugin. where it is in the cvs etc.

In case any of you have been using the Data Type Controls, be advised 
that they have been moved out of the Session preferences screens into 
the Global Preferences panel.  You should not need to re-set any of them 
that you have previously set.

Hi folks,

I had a feeling that this was my problem, and sure enough it was.  When 
I added the special case for cells that can be edited only in the Popup 
window (eg: strings containing newlines), I used a Cyan background to 
indicate that situation to the user.  When the (same) cell renderer 
instance is used on the next cell, I had to explicitly reset the color, 
and I forgot to check for whether the cell is selected or not.  3 lines 
of code later, it is now fixed.  Sorry about that.

Colin: I added a comment to the MR saying it is fixed, but I couldn't 
close it.  You can go ahead and close it now.

It's called  "Undo Make Editable" because the "Make Editable" is 
implemented as an override of what you have selected in the Session 
Properties.  If we called it "Make Read-only" or some such, then if your

I will be adding a new menu item to the popup menu labeled "Make Read-Only".  Unfortunately, CVS is suddenly not working for me, so it may be a while before I can do that.  In the mean time here is an awkward...

WORKAROUND:

Select the Session menu, then "Session Properties".  Set "Table Contents" to either "Text" or "Editable Table", then say OK.
Then select the Session menu again and "Session Properties", and set "Table Contents" to "Table".

That does the trick without needed to re-open the table.  I'll add the read-only option to the table menu when CVS lets me do updates again.

I noticed this as well.  However, after playing around with it a bit, I found 
that the select actually does work (at least, for me it does ;-).  I was able 
to copy the values of multiple cells and rows to the clipboard.  What is 
different is that the process of selection just doesn't turn the background 
of the cells light blue the way it used to.

Changing tables in the object tree should revert back to non-editable
mode unless you've got "Editable Table" selected in the Table Contents
dropdown on the General tab of session properties. However it would be
 nice to be able to turn it off without changing the currently
 selected table.

I suspect this is an unintended side effect of the latest data modification code. I've
created a bug for it.

is quite something.  But the following features are a problem, for me:
o  Once you turn on "Make Editable", I have found no way to turn it 
off.  With the feature turned on for the rest of the session, it's easy 
to mess up some data unintentianally.

o  The undo feature of the Syntax plugin has only one level.  This is a 
hassle.  Something like 50 or 100 should be available.  jEdit plugin was 
doing it.  With SYntax being a bit slow sometimes, it's hard not to 
delete to much of the text while editing an SQL.

o  In the results tab, I can't select one or more rows any more.  Select 
All does nothing, nor trying to select one or two select anything.  This 
is quite a pain in the neck.

That's it.  Any chance these things will be fixed sometime?

Just wanted to know how my patch for the multiple window is looking. How
long do you think before you will be able to apply it? Is it too much of a
change for the 1.2 version or will it become 1.3?

As part of my multiwindows patch the messages were removed from the
individual objects/sql frame and places at the bottom of the screen.

 

I had plans to have the message panel be hideable and then auto show when an
error occurs, much like when performing a compile in any IDE. I never got
that far, but maybe someone else would be interested in doing it  (hint
hint)

I have explain plan functionality sitting in my local CVS tree now. I am
waiting for my multiple window patch to be applied.

 

I am a commiter to the oracle plugin, so once the prerequisites have been
done I will commit my oracle patches.

Any chance you're going to be adding "explain plan" functionality? 

I could dig up the necessary commands. 
(It is fairly simple - execute an additional SQL query before and after the
query you're interested in, and you get a nice 

result set back)

With the addition of the SQL Filter on the Contents tab, it is now possible 
to form bad queries that generate errors from the Objects view.  In addition, 
you might want to be aware of errors that are caused by circumstances outside 
of SQuirreL's control.  E.g. loss of connection due to network, server, or 
database failure.

I generally just resize the area so that only a couple of lines are showing. 
  It doesn't have enough space to show the error message, but it is big 
enough that I notice the red text scroll by, indicating that something went 
wrong.
