Hi Joseph, I can't reproduce this with beta4. The original problem that I've fixed occured only on the first run of beta3, or if you deleted the SQuirreL preferences file and then ran SQuirreL, not all the time. It looks like you've found a different problem. What operating system/version and Java VM/version are you running? Does it occur with any alias or just one with a particular JDBC driver? In 1.2 I'm going to be adding the ability to be able to open multiple worksheets for a connection as well as allowing the choice of a SDI type UI as well as the existing MDI one. Some of the base infrastructure for this has already been done although there is a lot more to do. If you can generate the explain plan via SQL and display it via a result set then you should be able to modify the Oracle plugin to add an "Explain Plan" item to the session menu. This menu item could retrieve the currently selected SQL via ISQLPanelAPI.getSQLScriptToBeExecuted(), wrap the explain plan SQL around it and then execute it via ISQLPanelAPI.executeSQL(sqlToBeExecuted). If the explain plan SQL returns its results in a result set then it will be displayed in a tab just like any other SQL execution. If you're interested in working on SQSC and you have Oracle skills, the Oracle plugin would be an obvious place to look. It only has very basic functionality. Theres a lot of functionality in Oracle that it doesn't address (such as showing explain plans, showing source for stored procs that are within packages, editing, executing and debugging stored procs etc.). Oracle seems to be the most commonly used DBMS with SQSC (or maybe I just get more feedback from Oracle people) so adding functionality to the Oracle plugin is high on my list of priorities but I don't have either the Oracle skills or the time to do so. Hi johan, I think that it is probably more the case that I have multiple connections open to multiple databases from which I am not interested in seeing the objects in that database. So there is the overhead of displaying the objects when I am not interested in them. Plus there is no way to instantly give me the sql worksheet view. I have to click a tab. Ok I know that these reasons are pretty lame. I guess the main reason for doing it is that I think that the interface would be abit cleaner (at least for me). My suggestion would be to have a property to use the new behaviour or use the existing. Hi All (esp Colin), I use Oracle databases at work. I have had difficulty in the past with = squirrel because it doesnt allow me to have multiple SQL worksheets = without creating new connections. I find the interface cumbersome that i = need to re-login just to have another sql worksheet. In the true spirit of open source i have started to modifying the = squirrel source code so that i can have SQL Worksheets that are = independant of the session. So far i have created a SessionManager class = (and more!) that will be able to track sessions being added, removed = etc. I have a combo box on the toolbar that tracks the current sessions = as well as the current "active" session. I am almost at the stage where i have created a Action that can create = multiple SQL worksheets (detached from the Object tree) against the = current "active" session. My plans are to completely seperate the "object" view from the sql = worksheets. Unfortunately without realizing i have been making my = changes against the squirrel 1.1 source ;-( (so my patch wil be = delayed). Dont take this the wrong way, but am i wasting my time by trying to do = this? It seems that i am doing things against the current concepts in = squirrel so if i supply a patch will it get applied? Is anyone else = interested in this kind of ideas? (this is pretty how TOra or Toad do = things) I haven't got this far but I plan to add additional functionality to the = SQL worksheet so that when the Oracle plug-in is used "Explain Plans" = (instead of results) can be generated. I don't know if this has already = been done. Different database plugins could add their own performance = information. Anyhow just let me know if I am heading down the right track. Jason |

Hello everybody !
I have been looking for quite some time for Database editor, that will allow
me to visually change data in database. So far I have been using MS Access,
but since I am planning to start using pure java db HSQLDB, I need something
else, since there are no ODBC drivers available for this db.
SQuirreL so far has no support for editing data. I have started to working
on hack to remedy that but now I am at point where I don;t know where to go.
I made some changes CellDataPopup (to allow editing), but now I can't write
changed data to database. How can I get handle on currently open database,
to be able to write to it. If anybody has some good idea I would be very
thankful if he/she could share it with me...

Is the CVS repository consistent? CVS should be okay but I've just realized the build script needs updating. In the client project /sql12/app/ there is now a lib directory that contains forms.jar. You'll need this jar file in the classpath while compiling. I'll fix it tonight but to get running what you will need to do is change the javac task in the compile_app project to something like <classpath> <fileset dir="fw/lib"> <include name="**/*.*"/> </fileset> <fileset dir="app/lib"> <include name="**/*.*"/> </fileset> </classpath> I haven't tested the above so I may have the syntax wrong.
