for the benefit of other users: in this case the audio had been added and then had been "re-added" as trimmed sections of that file. This is not currently supported. Suggested to use the original audio file (or pre-cut into parts) and they have confirmed that this is working as expected.

Hi Gary, Those activate when you have an audio or video selected. The default setting when you insert will be to show the caption editor which you can change in settings. Hi Gary, I've never seen that before; would have thought it was admin / permission based but if you were able to manually install the runtime then it should be there. Can you try running the main STAMP installer as administrator and see if that makes a difference. Cheers, Jim

Hi Jenny, Small file like that should be fine. I did a set of larger audio files last year and no issues with the lag or timing. Manual timing on playback can be set on the animation timeline... but you would need to actively set that which doesn't make sense in this situation. That attachment doesn't play for me; I downloaded the screenrec software but file itself was quite small (and a screen recording is usually a bit larger :)). Thanks for writing back, Jim! The file size is 415 KB and it's about one minute of audio, so not too large. Once I get the hang of making captions I will be working with a few audio files that are longer. There is no delay set for the playback that I know of - where/how would I check that? Hi Jenny, That sounds quite strange and I've not had the timing out of sync other than with an audio or video file that is really large... in those cases PowerPoint can take a few seconds to load the file and start playing but the animations on the captions are already starting... but that should only happen when you open the file. Hi Jim, I started off using embedded videos but they proved to be a real pain. Every save of the file would take about 4 minutes! However, I'd be very surprised if there was any meaningful difference between and embedded and linked videos as far as subtitles are concerned. I certainly never noticed anything different. The key issue is the deletion of triggers created by STAMP if you don't follow a very specific path. The fact that STAMP was created before Microsoft introduced the 'In Click Sequence'...

Hi David, Not a great deal. Haven't been able to detect when the linked video is updated yet; and no gain on the start trigger. Hi Jim, Have you made any progress yet in updating STAMP to accommodate the 'In Click Sequence' video start setting? Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. It's not urgent, as my current TTML subtitling project has been completed and there is less risk that I will accidentally wipe out all the subtitle triggers, but it would be good if STAMP was brought up to date before my next project. Ironically I did have some strangeness with a video not wanting to autoplay... that one doesn't surprise me :). the transitions are on a timeline specific to that video; so if that gets swapped out via PPT then they get dropped. if you're in a testing mood what happens to a video that you have manually added transition timings on?

Hi Jim, I've just discovered another problem with STAMP. All the subtitle triggers are deleted if you update the source of the associated video link in the 'Edit Links to Files' dialogue box. This happens even if the source is still the same. Just clicking the 'Update Now' button is enough to delete those triggers. Best regards, David

Hi Tuan, If PowerPoint thinks that the app crash was from an AddIn they are usally disabled by default in case it is doing bad things. You should be able to re-enable using the options menu in PowerPoint: http://officeoneonline.com/pptfaq/reenable_addins.html Were you copying in the editor? You can export the captions and re-import into another file if you need. They are created with a few extra / hidden values that we use to manage the captions and I don't think I've ever tried to copy and paste...

Hi Jim, The 'In Click Sequence' video start option first appeared in updates to PowerPoint 2016. Was STAMP ever updated to accommodate that new option? I suspect not and think that is probably the primary cause of my subtitling problems. Hi Jim, If I make the changes listed below to my test PPTX file then I can always advance to slide 2 with one press on my Logitech remote control or one press of the spacebar on my keyboard. However, it always takes two key presses to go back to slide 1. Do you understand why? Forced advances between video slides in my much larger real PPTX file are more problematic. Hi Jim, I was using the native button, but have now done additional testing using STAMP's Autostart Video button. There are still issues, which are fully described on page 1 of my updated test PPTX file on Dropbox and repeated below. BTW, I recommend that you change that button to a checkbox. Hi David, Are you using the native or the STAMP button to start automatically? There is an "Autostart Video" button on the STAMP ribbon. There must have been a reason for us to add the button (which might well have been what you are experiencing)... so if you are using our button then we have a problem but if you are using the native control then this might be what you need. Hi Jim, I've spent some time today trying to dig deeper into my subtitles problem and have made some significant progress. If I simply import or link to a new video clip followed by using the Stamp add-in to import the associated TTML (XML) file then all is well. The subtitles appear and disappear in the predetermined manner. The default setting for video playback is to start in click sequence and this appears to be a key setting. As soon as I change it to start automatically, it all goes wrong....

Hi Jay, Sorry, missed replying to this obviously. There are multiple possible reasons for that which are near impossible to guess :( but in general if you are a home PC user then it should be fine; if you are using work PC then those have different settings and you should contact your local support team to get them to enable. Hi David, We haven't done anything actively with STAMP for a few years but we did check and as far as I know has been running on 365 OK - and I personally run 365 at home and whilst I dont use it too frequently I have had no issues with creating captions for a number of projects. Having said that I'm usually creating captions with the caption editor and not working with TTML files... and this was first created around 2012 and we haven't updated the TTML format / engine since then so it is possible...

Hi Carina, The captions are created as standard PowerPoint objects so they should behave and export like the rest of the presentation content. My last project was a video export so I know they were exported as part of that. I'm am home, so no server issues, just a regular old PC. I'm running MS PowerPoint for Office 365 MSO 16.0.11629.20238 64-bit. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the add-in as well as Office serveral times now. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. I'm desperate to finish this contract for a client. Hi Trish, Shouldn't need to re-install office for it to start. I didn't check my home setup but at work I have nearly the same build version so I dont think it would be it. Check that the add-in has been activated (it should by default): File > Options > Add-Ins and confirm that it's active. If it's not then at the bottom of that form make sure 'manage' selector is COM Add-ins and then Go... button to check to enable it. In theory once it's enabled it should be all go. Regards, Jim

hi trish, very strange as i have the 365 running at home and working a treat. as long as you're using the 1.6.0 version that should be ok. only situation where that might not is if you're at work... sometimes they have restrictions on what can be run - which would be a question for the IT team there. cheers, jim

Hi Emily, Thanks for checking the other information and the updates! :) The video / audio control used in the editor is the Windows Media Player on your PC... and so the installed media formats (codecs) will determine if it will play. I'm guessing that the file doesn't play in media player on the desktop (worth a quick check to confirm). In that case the best course of action would be to convert the media into a supported format that plays in media player and then it should play as expected. Let...
