I know HTML and CSS, but I don't want to build a website from scratch ever again (I had to build some for my IT class, and I hope not to write another one again). Well, leaving that apart, I decided to build the website with Weebly, it's way faster and I don't need to install Windows in order to test the website under IE.

As you may have seen, I prefer to write something that can do decisions and be "smart", not just a "fancy document".

Anyway, I would also like to tell you about what is going on with Textpad 0.9:

A tools menu was added, from where you can access various useful features.
Fixed an issue regarding the UI font in OS X Mavericks.
Performance improvements.
Changed the way that dialogs appear in OS X.
Added a full translation to Spanish.
I am currently working in an integrated Hex Reader, which you may find useful if you are editing a binary file.
You can now choose between the Moka icon set (added in the 0.8 release) and the + Elementary icon set (added a long time ago).
Many code improvements.
Added some terminal arguments, such as a reset function and a version function.
Finally, Textpad is now really a single instance application (you can change this feature if you want).
OS X now supports full screen mode (there was an issue with the main toolbar).
I am now working in many more improvements and fixes , but they are experimental, so + I won't mention them until they are really usable.

Textpad 0.8.1 released (and some ideas for 0.9)

Textpad 0.8.1 has just been released, and you are strongly recommended to upgrade to the newer version.

This release is mostly a maintenance release, as it fixes the following bugs:

Quotation marks with nothing inside ("") are now highlighted by the editor.
Some improvements in the interface shown in Microsoft Windows.
The application should now open without problems under Mac OS X.

Please note that the Linux release will be released later this week, you are welcome to download it and compile it if you want.

By this mean I would like also to notify you about the planed features for Textpad 0.9 (you are welcome to suggest more features here):

Begin working in translations (I can handle Spanish without any problems, but you are welcome to help).
Adding a "Tools" menu, where various functions such as "Sort" or "Go to line.." can be accessed.
Work seriously on improving even more the performance and stability of Textpad.
Add more keywords to the listed programming languages.
(Maybe) Add support for Markdown Syntax documents.
(Maybe) Add an advanced search dialog (with Regex).
Add a function that will remove duplicate lines.
Fix a bug in Mac OS X where the a vertical line appears on the line numbers before editing the document.
(Maybe) Add a preferences dialog and change the color schemes engine so that the user can create his/her own color schemes.
(Maybe) Add some CLI options.

Finally, I think that I should begin working on designing a website (that will be located at textpad-editor.sf.net), you are very very welcome to help building the site, as I am not very good (or have patience) to design a CSS theme and building a website.

Textpad 0.8 will be released during the next week, many of you may have asked why this release (0.8) took so long to be released, if so, head on and continue reading...

Why did it took so long?

There where a lot of changes in the base of the source code, so I had to adapt the software to these changes.
There where some new features that needed to re-implement many things around the source code.
This release was adapted to every tested OS (Linux, Mac and Windows) to make Textpad feel native on every platform.
There where many bug fixes.
I had exams (no need to explain).
I tested a binary release of Textpad on Ubuntu 13.10 with Mir and Fedora 19 (and works great on both platforms)
The "drag and drop" feature needed some extra modifications to the source code.
The preferences engine in Textpad was completely reworked, due to the implementation of a SDI interface.
I added some export options (HTML and PDF).
The structure of the source code was redesigned (again).
The code was tested for stability and performance, so this release should be also the most stable and fast release of Textpad.
Many, many of other minor changes.

As all listed features of Textpad are now implemented (except for some links in the About menu). Finally, this is the first release that will be marked as "Beta". This means that you should not expect your machine to blow off, but you should be aware that Textpad may not be as stable as other text editors (I only managed to crash it twice, but I fixed the cause for those crashes).

I hope that you will like this release as much as I enjoyed making it :)

Textpad 0.8 preview

Textpad Editor 0.8 will be released soon, it contains some exciting new features that may interest you.

New features:

A SDI (Single Document Interface) is now fully implemented (and tested).
Textpad is now a single-instance application (in order to make the SDI work correctly).
Syntax highlighting support will be added for Vala and VB.
All listed programming languages (in the Highlighting Mode menu) are now fully supported by the syntax highlighter.
Binary releases will be finally be available for download for Windows, Mac and Linux (generic 32 bit).
(Maybe) translation for Spanish.
(Maybe) spell checking.
Recent files is now fully implemented.

Mac users: Textpad could be uploaded to the Hackstore when it reaches version 1.0.

Ubuntu/Debian-based distros users: Textpad could be uploaded to the Ubuntu Software Center and have it's own ppa (I need to learn how to use launchpad.net).

Textpad 0.8 will be the first "beta" release of Textpad, while 0.9 will be the "Final beta" and 1.0 will be a stable release (I hope).
