It's nice to meet another tournament software developer :D. Hopefully this helps with the events you guys run. Leave a review with what you think!

cannot start Tournament maker

Yes, version 12 works for me.
The reason I am interested is: I wrote a program (not nearly as elaborated as yours) to
create a certain type of tournament, see https://sourceforge.net/projects/alracttg/
The program is installed in https://www.ratrabbit.nl/alracttg
In this type of tournament, each player plays a fixed number of games, there is no
real winner in the end.
Tournament Maker seems very useful for other type of tournaments, I guess we will certainly use it at https://www.oltc.nl

cannot start Tournament maker

Ok looks like there were some changes in Java 9 that broke one of the dependencies I was using. I fixed it, but don't have access to an Ubuntu machine with Java 11 right now. Can you download version 12 and let me know if that fixes it for you?

cannot start Tournament maker

System: Ubuntu 19.10
It's been a while since I tested this on Linux. I know it works with OpenJDK 8.

Forking an enhanced version

Sorry for the slow response, I haven't had much free time. I finally managed to look at your branch. From what I can tell, automatically generating the teams and even matching them randomly make sense as features in the program. I would suggest moving the auto generate teams into the CSV importer (assuming that people are signing up via a google form or something else that could be converted into a csv and imported) and the auto match into the event start so that you don't have to have an extra button (given that you will always be clicking it).

The part I'm having a hard time figuring out is the history. The place where it falls apart is allowing teams to enter and leave. That invalidates the assumptions I made when creating an event, that it would be able to generate it's list of matches when it starts. With a shifting number of teams, that becomes impossible. Like you described, each round would be a new event, but the pairings would be weighted based on the previous matches. Because each event is assumed to be isolated from other events, adding a history is actually quite hard. This is also complicated by some of the functionality I wrote for undoing events/matches (none of which is needed for board play).

I think the easiest way forward would be to add a next round button on the board play event. This would reset the event (you can use the existing undo function) but keep an object with who has already played each other (just create that in the board play event itself). Then, if the auto match was in the event start, you could just call event start again after adding/removing teams. You can modify the round robin algorithm and painter so that it only shows the first round.

Hopefully that helps. Let me know if anything I described doesn't make sense.

Forking an enhanced version

Do teams play in a round robin style or is it still some form of elimination event? Just trying to understand why you would need to do more after generating the teams and randomizing the initial pairings.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding and this is for a bunch of people just showing up to play and you don't actually need the results, just a way to schedule them on courts? In which case I'm still unsure why a history is needed to avoid having 2 teams play more than once.

I'm a little swamped this weekend, but I'll checkout your Github and take a look when I get a chance.

Forking an enhanced version

Hi Bruce, happy to hear you find this useful! I'm a little unsure of what you are actually asking for. Is it to have pairs of players form teams without restrictions? Or is it just to be able to automatically populate an event with all the teams randomly? It's been a while since I've worked on this, but if it's something small I'm happy to take a look and see if I can help.

Forking an enhanced version

At my tennis club we have a need for software to make up pairs of players for doubles (based on their grade) and then make up matches for those teams. Normally we play for a set time, results are not kept ; this is called "board play".

However we also have more competitive tournaments where we either make the pairs up or the players pair themselves up, and play a triple elimination tournament.

Tournament Maker is the best fit i have found for Open Source software ,so I have forked a version to Github to add the automation of pairings and matches. (https://github.com/donquixote2u/tournamentmaker)
I hope some may find this version useful.
