Currently I have a mail server where all unknown / disabled addresses are forwarded to postmaster@domain.com.

For disabled address, I setup a filter using module "filter and forward mail". I select as action "Send automatic reply", but would like to edit the "From:" field in the autoreply message.

This could be done either by adding a From: field input box, or by letting user specify the From: header line as first line in the autoreply text input box.

Currently the last option works on usermin 1.701, but this setting is not kept when the rule is edited again. Also note that adding a From: header actually creates a redundant From: header line, but in my tests, the first (redundant) From: header line get filtered out by the SMTP servers on sending.

Note that an alternate solution is to use the procmail module along with filesystem module to edit the autoreply message. However the "filter and forward mail" is much more user-friendly and proposal above would be a simple / nice addition.

Currently, the From: address for autoreplies is always set to be what Usermin thinks is the address the user typically receives email on. This is intentional, because the best address cannot be reliabily determines when actually sending the autoreply. However, this means that there's no way to force a user-defined from address yet.

    Hi Jamie,
    Thanks for fast reaction.

For clarity, I'm speaking about the module "Fiter and forward mail", not the module "Mail forwarding and reply".

In the first module, I'm using a filter based on header "Delivered-To:", and the alias mail address I want the auto-reply to be set. I'm using postfix/dovecot as mail system, and this filter seems to catch appropriately all emails sent to my alias mail address (also when it was used as Cc: or as Bcc: address). If there was an input box where I could then tell usermin to use the alias I'm filtering on as From: field for the autoreply, that would work fine.

Also, to motivate this change, I'm doing this because I don't want the autoreply to reveal my "real" mailbox address. If that would be the case, I might receive much more spam on that address and would be compelled to change it.
