zbarimg (for QR code) always appends a newline to the decoded result, even with -q --raw;
for automatic processing, it should be possible to retrieve the encoded contents verbatim, with nothing added, even if the last line is missing a newline

to be clear: this feature request is about the camera image being displayed and not about the camera image being fed to whatever algorithm you use to recognize and decode qr codes/barcodes/etc

running zbarcam 0.23.92 on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS up-to-date

I'd like to have the following (or similar) commandline flags to be added:
--mirror-vertical -- mirrors the displayed image vertically
--mirror-horizontal -- mirrors the displayed image horizontally
--rotate=degree -- rotates the displayed image by the given amount of degrees, I'd like at least multiples of 90 to be supported

reason: currently the camera image is upside down when I use zbarcam on my ultraportable machine in tent mode. my best guess is that --rotate=180 will fix this issue

There is a clone over at https://github.com/mchehab/zbar which has more development activity (and is probably where your 0.23 came from), maybe you should report the issue there.

Does zbarimg emit UTF-8? According to the German Wikipedia, UTF-8 does not require a Byte Order Mark (BOM) in UTF-8 encoded files. According to Wikipedia, a BOM causes trouble with several text editors.

However, if zbarimg writes its output tin the standard output device, why should it add a BOM?

Is your bug the same one as #73, the unability to correctly emit some accented characters and Umlaute and German character ß?

Today, in version 0.23, ten years later than the last discussion, the bug is still present as experienced on Xubuntu 20.04.2: The letter "ß" appearing in my name is output as a Chinese character ﾃ歹. zbarimg should output as utf-8 by default - or at least should have an option to do so.
