Has done what I needed; but over the years, fewer and fewer items have worked. It appears the bulk of my issues have been http links for the RSS feeds (and images) have migrated to HTTPS, and no longer work. Does this seem correct? Is there a solution? Is there anyone still out there?

I love this little thing (Chumby 8), but the last working RSS feed (CNN) has now moved from HTTP to HTTPS and no longer works.

Any help? thanks!

Reason for some of the services to be started only after 1 hour?

I have a question regarding some items not starting for 1 hour after booting up. What is the reason behind this?

Is it simply that they begin with cron, and it takes that time to count 1 hour out? Could we instead have a script include this initial starting on boot?

Or is it something more like a way to save resources on booting up? If so, could we start in the background a secondary script that begins with a few minutes of sleep?

Bringing the github fork of this project adapted to include classic chumbys back in?

Is there any chance that the fork that has appeared on github that allows the latest builds of this project to run on chumby classics could be brought back into the fold?

I have one running here quite well with this version (based on v34), and it appears to be pretty solid - they're such cute little things it'd be a shame to have them left behind. I keep seeing so many of them, and have recently been given even more.

I've been pretty impressed with this development, and have actually used the fork someone has made to make the latest versions of this still run on the Chumby Classic which I've successfully been using (it uses swap to help boost its tiny ram).

I noticed that there was some discussion sometime ago about DLNA back in 2013, and at that time it wasn't possible for it to be a target (am I using the right terms here?) so that a remote device could send sound to pop out of the Chumby - with discussion about needing to compile a later version of the Bluetune SDK to make that happen.

So why would we go to the effort of doing this?

Now that we live in the time of the smart home, I use the open source Home Assistant on a raspberry pi to drive lots of smart devices around my home (some of them handmade like the 1930s megaphone that barks reminders at me using a 1980s TTS chip). I'd love to be able to remotely command my little army of 3 Chumbys around the house to link in with this automation. This way they can join the dynamically adaptable system to have alarms that are centralised with lighting and window blind states, can speak out server created TTS around the home and also do things like use the built in scripts to turn their screens off at night etc.

I'd love to have this ability, but it seems like DLNA is the missing piece that I'd need to make this happen. Has there been any work toward this? Or is there a build environment already established with some partially worked code I could have a go at compiling myself? Being that it's a very ancient build environment for these now, I'm not sure where I'd start at creating it myself...

After removing the chumby.com software do I keep the original control panel? Thanks for answering my question.
