    OpenHardwareMonitor

    OpenHardwareMonitor

Free open source tool for real-time PC hardware sensor monitoring

Open Hardware Monitor is a free and open source hardware monitoring application designed primarily for personal computers. It provides real-time insights into key system metrics such as temperatures, fan speeds, voltages, load percentages, and clock speeds by reading directly from sensors embedded in CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, and storage devices. The tool supports a wide range of sensor hardware found on modern systems, including Intel and AMD processors, NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards, SMART temperature sensors on storage drives, and many motherboard monitoring chips. Users can view monitored data directly within the application, as customizable desktop gadgets, or through a system tray interface, making it easy to keep an eye on system health at a glance. OpenHardwareMonitor runs without the need for a traditional installation (it can be run portably) and on systems configured with the appropriate runtime (e.g., .NET or Mono).

    FurMark

    FurMark

GPU stress test OpenGL and Vulkan graphics benchmark Windows/Linux

FurMark is an intensive benchmarking tool designed to evaluate the performance of graphics cards using fur rendering algorithms. This tool is particularly effective in generating high workloads that can significantly increase the temperature of the GPU, making it a useful utility for testing the stability and stress tolerance of graphics cards. By simulating demanding rendering tasks, FurMark serves as a comprehensive test for assessing the robustness and thermal performance of GPUs under extreme conditions. FurMark from Geeks3D is a free OpenGL benchmark tool for Windows that can also be used to check the stability of a graphics card thanks to a built-in stress test. FurMark rendering is designed to overheat the GPU making it a viral-like stability and stress test tool (also called GPU burner) for the graphics card.

    lm-sensors

    lm-sensors

    lm-sensors repository

lm-sensors is the canonical Linux project for reading motherboard and peripheral hardware sensors—temperatures, fan speeds, voltages—and exposing them to userspace. It ships a probing utility (sensors-detect) that identifies I²C/SMBus chips and kernel drivers, then a runtime tool (sensors) that prints human-readable readings for quick diagnostics. The companion library, libsensors, gives applications a stable API to query sensor values, enabling desktop applets, monitoring daemons, and alerting systems to build on a common foundation. Configuration files map raw chip registers to friendly labels and scaling factors, so outputs reflect real hardware characteristics across many vendors. With this foundation, higher-level tools (like fancontrol or graphical monitors) can automate cooling policies and warn about thermal or power issues before they become failures.

    SIV (System Information Viewer)

    SIV (System Information Viewer)

SIV displays useful Windows, network, and hardware info.

SIV by Ray Hinchliffe. 'System Information Viewer' is a general Windows utility for displaying lots of useful Windows, Network and hardware info - CPU info, PCI info, PCMCIA info, USB info SMBus info, SPD info, ACPI methods, Machine info, Hardware Sensors, Networked computers, Operating System Information and more. SIV is designed for Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2012, 2008, 2003, 2000 and NT4. Windows 95, 98 and Me are also supported. SIV can also be used to control AIO devices, such as fans and LEDs. To do this, you need to specify the -AIOCTL command line qualifier. When -AIOCTL is specified, SIV will automatically do the EnhancedPowerManagementEnabled registry change and restart the USB device. SIV (System Information Viewer) uses pcidevs.txt for the PCI devices, usbdevs.txt for the USB devices, and mondevs.txt for monitoring pcmdevs.txt PCMCIA device descriptions.

    s-tui

    s-tui

Terminal-based CPU stress and monitoring utility

s-tui (Stress Terminal UI) is a terminal-based performance monitoring and stress-testing tool focused specifically on CPU behavior analysis in Linux and other UNIX-like systems. It provides real-time graphical visualization of CPU temperature, frequency, power consumption, and utilization directly within a text-based interface, eliminating the need for a graphical desktop environment. The utility is particularly useful for diagnosing thermal throttling, validating cooling solutions, and evaluating system stability under heavy load conditions. In addition to passive monitoring, s-tui can integrate with external stress tools to actively push the CPU to its limits while simultaneously displaying performance metrics. The software is lightweight, scriptable, and well suited for remote environments such as SSH sessions or small devices like Raspberry Pi.
