I've now uploaded version 1.0.0. Changes include: added an options dialog with check frequency, notification options (including launching a program), save window geometry and more, no longer requires KDE, fixed bug which caused users with garbage names to appear.

The initial release is now available from the download page. I've only tested it on a couple of fairly standard x86 boxes, so it's probably full of bugs... but I'd love to hear about them! =)
