My largest problem learning the language of the country I'm living in (Finland) is that the vocabulary doesn't want to stick. After a short time I've forgotten them again and honestly I'm not willing to sit down every evening after work to repeat them all. But hey, I'm sitting in front of a computer pretty much the whole day and I learned programming. Ergo:
This is a very basic tool that every few (pre-defined) minutes pops up a window and asks me one random word out of one (or more) selected unit(s). If I answered it correctly it will be removed from the question session until all words were answered correctly once.
All the units and their vocabulary are stored in JSON format with the help of RavenDB (NoSql, embedded version). The program requires .Net framework 4 to be installed on the computer.
Features
- units for question session selectable (can be one, multiple or all)
- time between questions can be set at beginning of session. If 0, then the questions are asked without a break. Maximum value is 500 (that would be about 8 hours between questions). As soon as the result window is closed, the timer starts again (unless user clicks "stop").
- import new unit/extend existing unit per csv-files
- editor (not very user-friendly, but works for fixing errors and adding a synonym or deleting/adding a word)
- main window can be minimized to tray while session is running
